![]() We farm as much of the land we available to us as possible as food for the orphanage. The farming we do is split into three areas, Fruit and Vegetables, Chicken Farm and Aquaponics, each detailed below.. |

Our goal once the new site has been completed is that these three areas will provide enough chicken, eggs and fish to feed the orphanage, with any surplus being sold to raise money. And also for a minimum amount of fruit and vegetables needing to be purchased. Other food basics such as rice, cooking oil and gas is supplied by a local resort.
This will all help drastically improve the sustainability of the project.
| Fruit and Vegetables The area in which the home is located is very dry and arid, and it is difficult to grow any sort of crop. But we have managed to grow a whole range including chilis, egg plant, and papaya. That we have achieved this has set a great example to the local community and in the future we would like to offer training, where we can share the techniques and knowledge we have gained. |

Chicken Farm Our goal with the chicken farm is to provide one egg everyday for every child in our care. After initial set up costs we estimate that this could save us up to USD$2,000 a year. Previously we have only farmed chickens for meat, but we have recently set up a new coup and purchased a batch of broilers which we hope will make this a reality. |

Aquaponics
This is the cultivation of fish and vegetables in a circulating system where the waste from the fish is used to fertilise the vegetables.
We are about to trial a scaled down version of the system on our old site. This will help us to adapt the techniques to our environment before transferring the full version to the new site.
